Colorado Annuity Information
Colorado Division of Insurance
The Colorado Division of Insurance (DOI) regulates the insurance industry in Colorado. We help consumers by answering their questions, investigating their complaints, and helping them to understand their insurance. We regulate and monitor the insurance companies in Colorado, as well as insurance agents, making sure everyone is following the law.
Joe Neguse is the Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies. Governor John Hickenlooper appointed Mr. Neguse to the Cabinet effective June 1, 2015.
As Executive Director, Joe leads the state’s regulatory department, an agency with roughly 600 employees and a $87 million budget. The Executive Director's Office provides leadership and support to DORA's nine divisions, which include Banking, Civil Rights, Consumer Counsel, Financial Services, Insurance, Professions and Occupations, Public Utilities Commission, Real Estate, and Securities. As Executive Director, Joe also serves as a member of the Statewide Internet Portal Authority.
Two of the most important functions of the Colorado Division of Insurance are to perform market conduct and financial examinations of all of the insurance companies that are licensed to do business within the state of Colorado. This is especially important for annuity investors. The market conduct examinations ensure that consumers are fully informed on their annuity contracts. The financial examinations are done to make sure that the life insurance companies that sell annuities are financially sound and will be able to meet future financial obligations.
